Wallpaper: Are People Still Doing That?

Wallpaper has been around for a long time, but many of us still see it as an outdated, old school style. It has grown less and less popular over the last few decades, due to many homeowners seeking a more neutral, modern style in their home design. However, in the last few years, wallpaper has begun to gain popularity again as endless new types and styles have been created.

There are so many great things about wallpaper, the main one being that it is temporary! Wallpaper is a great way to change the feel of a space entirely, while also allowing you to change it in the future, or the next homeowner can change it to fit their own style. While replacing wallpaper does tend to be more difficult than just peeling it off (unless you get true peel-off wallpaper), modern wallpaper adhesives aren’t as tacky and hard to work with as the old school plaster was known to be.

When it comes to types of wallpaper, there are many options!

Vinyl wallpaper is definitely the most popular as it is easy to install, remove, and clean. Non-woven is a vinyl free option, as well as being environmentally friendly, it is also washable and breathable, meaning mold will never be an issue. Grasscloth wallpaper is a woven, highly textured wallpaper that is sure to bring a sense of luxury to your home. This type of wallpaper almost always requires professional cleaning. These are just a few of the endless wallpaper options you can choose from.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed while making the leap into the world of wallpaper, the best tip we could give you is to start small! Starting with one wall of an office or your powder room is a great way to ease yourself into bringing more patterned walls into your home. Add a starry sky wallpaper to a child's bedroom ceiling to give the room a whimsical feel. Add it to the wall your bed is on in your master suite to give it a more elevated look. Whatever your style may be, there is truly a style of wallpaper for everyone!
