For Pete to swoon over a dish, it takes a lot. Besides being a very good cook himself, Pete holds a pretty high standard for food and when he gives a sincere appreciation of his meal- you know it was excellent. So it was during a recent visit to Borough, in our continuing search for sublime dining in the North Loop- we were not disappointed.
In our continued search for culinary sweet spots of the North Loop we turned to the latest restaurants from Twin Cities dynamic dining group- Blue Plate Restaurant Company. This group has a history of creating the perfect mix of comfortable, hip atmosphere and comfort-centric crowd pleasers with a sprinkle of the unexpected. And this latest restaurant/brew house, The Freehouse didn’t come up short.
Alright, despite being a grammatically terrible sentence, the truth of it is undeniable. There are just some things which are better left alone, unable to be improved upon and if attempted, disappointment and outrage would surely ensue. ‘Tis the way with stalwart tradition and the institutions which best exemplify that the status quo is the only way to go.
Our first entry from the west side of the Twin Cities, BLVD, is located in Minnetonka. BLVD specializes in upscale casual American cuisine, a more refined take on traditional bar & grill food. “Everyone loved their food, the crab I ordered was great, said Peter, “and Jill said her turkey sandwich was the best she’d ever had!”
Having our office in downtown Lake Elmo, Hagstrom Builder employees find ourselves in Stillwater for lunch on a quite regular basis, and as a result we have a number of favorite restaurants there. Aside from LoLo, another of our favorites is Tin Bins, located on the river side of Main Street; Tin Bins has awesome food for every time of day, and even better views with perfect vision of the Stillwater Bridge and the St. Croix.
The Great Minnesota Get-Together has gained high esteem in the eyes of Minnesotan’s for a slew of reasons, chief among them: the food. With options like deep fried candy bars and chocolate covered bacon, it’s hard for anyone not to be fan.
Located in the Victory neighborhood in North Minneapolis, Victory 44 is a kitchen and coffee bar of surprising fame. Hagstrom Builder employees have spotted it in food publications across the Twin Cities. Given this and our desire to always eat at local restaurants, when we first found ourselves in the neighborhood, we had to give Victory a try.
Downtown Stillwater is a gorgeous place to spend time. The classic riverside town has been a Minnesota staple since the height of the lumber industry, and over the years, the town has grown a plethora of amazing places to eat. Among these places is the Hagstrom Builder favorite, Lolo. The restaurant, whose name is an abbreviation for “Locally owned. Locally operated” is located just off of main street and specializes in gourmet style American street food.
“Two words: mushroom soup— that’s all you need” That’s how Jill described her and Peter’s most recent experience at Urban Olive and Vine. Located in downtown Hudson, Wisconsin, Urban Olive and Vine is only the most recent breakthrough in the Hagstrom Builder office’s quest to make their lunches more enjoyable.
